 CONCEPT

This work uses a single laser projector and an apparatus composed of ten DC motors and several differently-sized semi-transparent mirrors.

Ten DC motors are embedded in the apparatus, and a semi-transparent mirror cut into a long thin strip is attached to the tip of each motor. Each of these has its own independent time axis, rotating at a different speed (each DC motor is provided with the same power, but the RPM of each differs due to discrepancies in their internal structure. Here, I am using those discrepancies as a variable incorporated into the work.)

In addition, two square semi-transparent mirrors are fixed in place so as to cover the mirrors cut into strips. The abstract image emitted from the laser projector is thrown perpendicularly against the semi-transparent mirrors by the two square semi-transparent mirrors, which are arranged in parallel.

The image too has an autonomous time axis, like a life form, and periodically changes in appearance. Through the two square semi-transparent mirrors arranged in parallel, and the ten semi-transparent mirrors cut into thin strips, endless space spreads through the inside of the apparatus in a complex network of relationships. Within that space, fragments of the image’s outline and intricately intertwined shadows are produced around the edges of the image.
